FAQ
Where is my stopcock?
A stopcock is a valve or tap on the mains feed into your house. Check under the kitchen sink and make sure it's accessible. In the case of a burst pipe or failed tap in the house, you'll need to get to this easily.
What do I do if a pipe bursts?
First, turn off the mains stopcock. If you have a loft tank, opening all the taps can reduce the amount of water that would otherwise leak out.
Be sure to photograph any water damage for insurance. We can cut out any faulty section of pipe and replace it for you. Hopefully the pipe will be visible. If not, we will make good any plaster or render when we finish.
CHECK LIST:
- Make sure all your pipework in the loft is properly lagged. Your storage tank should be lagged too, and have a proper lid to it.
- Check that your loft insulation doesn't actually extend beneath the storage tank. This allows warmth from below to take the chill off the tank.
- Open the loft door to warm the roof area.
- Have your boiler serviced regularly by a qualified technician.
- Make sure there is a stopcock on the header tank in the roof.
